Why Should You Consider an Organic Crib Mattress?

Pretty much, all of us are looking for something that will fit our needs and the needs of your precious little baby. Once you’ve picked the baby crib or cot and the rest of the nursery furniture, you know you only have one more thing to get, the crib mattress.

You’ll notice that several times I will refer to buying an organic crib mattress as an ‘investment’ and this is so true because you’re not only buying a piece of furniture, you’re buying piece of mind

This is something that for me personally, I want to know that the mattress my baby is sleeping on is made from the most organic, natural and non-toxic materials. For example, materials that naturally exist in nature such as coconut coir.

I have always purchased natural, non-toxic infant mattresses for both my children (pretty much, I buy all organic baby products for my baby, my husband calls it the ‘organic nursery’, including organic bedding and organic mattress covers) which are made from organic compounds and minerals and if you are here reading this, then this area of safety and health for your little one concerns you also, so I would suggest you buy one too.

Why Organic? If you are not looking at getting one, you could be exposing your baby to harmful chemicals. A study conducted by Cockrell School Engineers found that many commonly purchased brands of crib mattresses emit high levels of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) that are commonly found in household cleaners and scented sprays. This is actually the mattress your newborn and toddler will be sleeping on; i.e they will be inhaling this every single day. You don’t want those around your precious bundle of joy, so the best bet is to look into buying a mattress made of organic materials.

Budgeting – How Much Should You Spend?

Typically you’re going to expect to pay anywhere from $180 to $250 for an organic crib mattress.

You really do get what you pay for

While we are not here to scare the life out of you, as you probably have enough on your plate, as a parent we do need to inform ourselves of the risks and dangers not only to ourselves but anything to our baby aswell, you can read more about this below.
